Bookwyn lets you build and share timelines of books and authors. This page explains what information the service uses and when a timeline is visible to others.
Who operates Bookwyn
Bookwyn operates this service. Contact us at bookwynweb@gmail.com.
Information we use
- If you create an account, we use your email address and authentication information to sign you in, keep your timelines, and send account emails.
- We store timeline names, selected books and authors, reading status, and the information needed to display and manage each timeline.
- When you use a guest timeline, this browser holds the editing access needed to keep working on it. Session and sign-in cookies support this flow.
- When you search for books or authors, Bookwyn sends the search terms to Wikidata to find matching public book data.
Public timelines and retention
Anyone with a timeline URL can view it. Avoid putting private information in a timeline name or its contents. Guest timelines and timelines created through the Bookwyn ChatGPT plugin have a 30-day expiry. Expired timelines become unavailable. A guest timeline becomes an account timeline without an expiry when you sign in and claim it from the same browser. A plugin timeline is initially read-only. Anyone with its URL can view it; the first signed-in visitor to save it can add it to their account, remove its expiry, and edit it. Account timelines stay until their owner deletes them.
Analytics
The website loads Google Analytics only if you allow it in the analytics choice shown on the site. You can change that choice through Analytics settings in the footer; the choice is stored in this browser. When allowed, Google may receive browser and usage information under its own privacy terms. The website sends coarse events for views and interactions with plugin-created timelines. Separately, the server sends aggregate plugin creation and cleanup counts to Google Analytics without using your browser choice. These Bookwyn events do not include timeline titles or book selections.
Service providers and your choices
Bookwyn uses a hosting provider to run the service, Brevo to deliver account emails, Wikidata for book lookup, Google Analytics for measurement, and Tally for support requests you submit through the embedded form. If you open Bookwyn through ChatGPT, ChatGPT's own terms and privacy practices also apply to your conversation. You can delete individual account timelines in Bookwyn. For questions about your account data or a request to remove it, use the support page.
